Transport

The overall aim of the transport group is to enable the people of the community area to reach their destinations quickly, safely and in an environmentally friendly way.

The community area covers a diverse rural and urban environment with transport being a key component of the communication network. Investment proposals need to focus on public transport, maintenance of current roads and footpaths and to improve walking and cycling facilities, to promote greener, cleaner travel choices and reduce the reliance on the car.

Current project:

Calne Area Transport have recently started a Cycle and Footpath Project funded by the Community Foundation and the Calne Area Board.

The project will end in March and be made public by means of a presentation to an Area Board meeting. The project, run entirely by volunteers, is assessing cycle and footpaths in Calne, as well as those leading to and from the countryside, to establish how appropriate they are for the purpose of offering safe and convenient access.
